I'll never forget one year falling down under the 15 in "Seizure Wash" on my XR 80. In the process of falling down I flicked the switch from "run" to off. Of course it wouldn't start. After 30 minutes of my father threatening to kill me and burn me along with the motorcycle, Norm Stuart came up and pointed out our error. The bike fired right up. I made it to the Clark mountains but we turned back because of the bad snow falling. My mother (driving chase) made it to State Line (now Primm) but when we didn't show she turned back and had to wait to be escorted through the Clark's. My father and I sat in Stuckey's there at Cima Rd. for like eight hours, soaked to the bone freezing our arses off. We had no money but they were nice enough to feed us and keep warm drinks coming. Finally Mom showed up - we settled up at Stuckey's and we packed up and headed home.
Years later, I was able to return the favor when I started racing. Norm had gotten off course (he didn't like downhills), stalled his bike and wasn't able to get it started. I noticed him out of the corner of my eye and went and started that beast. I said "Now we're even!" He of course had no idea what I was talking about. Later I reminded him of "Seizure Wash" and had a good chuckle over it...
